Thank you thats helpful. I know its a personal preference bc some ppl can just sleep colder etc I just didn't want to go out and end up freezing. Ill def bring my ground pad. Id normally just try it out on my back porch or something but since i'm at school i don't have anyway to test before i go out.

FWIW, take the stuff out back and give it a go! That is going to be the only way you are going to know what will work for "You" at a given temp!

I think you will need the pad too below 50 or 60 depending on your cold tolerance. Is your bag down or synthetic fill? I've been down to 20 degrees with a 20 degree Down bag used like a top quilt with a Thermarest. I do get a little CBS if I don't add my Reflectix sit pad also under my butt though.

Go car camping. And bring some extra gear for "just in case". You can always bail to the car ,if push comes to shove.
Hang inside your bedroom and shut the vents and open the windows. Not "real world", but it will give you a feel for colder temps. You can add a fan for a breeze.

Ill try it all out thanks guys. I know last summer i went with my hammock and just a thin sheet and was fine. Obviously thats when the lows like 68 though. Ill bring all my underarmour and a hoodie etc. How much do you guys think a small thicker blanket would help if placed in the bottom of the hammock. Thats kinda inefficient on space in my bag but Ive got a bigger bag than i need for most of my trips.

I have never used a pad while hanging in cold weather, but have rigged up a system that works really well for me. I have a 20 deg bag as well as a REI 55 deg bag that has a cinch bottom that I use to place over me. I place a pad under my shoulders to keep them warm and hop in the hammock with my 20 deg bag. I run my hammock through the REI bag and cinch the bottom to keep me warm. I have used this system overnight with the low reaching around 35-40 degrees and was warm all night. Maybe this could be a system that could work for you. The picture is of my homemade hammock stand that I sleep in occasionally when the wife lets me.... Good Luck.
