I've been to Indian Caves, and that was pretty cool (first 'group hang' I've been to).

I've been going to the Woodridge Public Use Area on the west side of Clinton Lake. I've verified that there's no issue whatsoever with hanging hammocks there as long as you use straps and aren't tearing up the trees.

Have you (or anyone for that matter) done an overnight hang at Perry Lake? Any issues there with hanging a hammock?

Looks to be pretty much the same distance away from me as Woodridge...and it's got more extensive trails from what I can tell as well.

Also...side note...anyone in the area interested in putting together a cold weather hang sometime in the next month or two? Woodridge closes their gates for the season, but it's still legal to camp there during the off-season, you just have to park outside the gates. We might try that...but I'm open to suggestions as well.

Where is Woodridge. I grew up in Topeka so I'm still a newcomer here after about 20 years.

And I didn't do much in the way of camping growing up so I don't know any places there, though I did work at the Lake golf course for quite a while. Only places I know to hang there will get you escorted fairly quickly.

And for cold weather, I only have a pad right now for my Blackbird. Did want to get out sometime but looking for a warm December night with the lows around 40. Been a couple lately but they were bracketed by work. This weeks temps look to be in the 20's though it was warm when I went to work this morning.

Look up Clinton Lake, near Lawrenece, KS. Woodridge Public Use Area is on the western shore of the lake. It's NOT easy to find if you don't pay close attention to where you're headed, but it's well worth it. It has about six miles of trails that go around the park, camping and access is permitted year round (although parking is only on the outside of the gate during the off season).

There are pit latrines and a well for fresh water at the trail head. Other than that, it's all primitive camping, and fires must be in the fire rings. Hanging is not a problem...I spent a lot of time last summer hanging out there.

I'm definitely interested. What dates are you considering?

Something about your avatar is just not right. But I like it.
I also would be in the mix if the schedule works.

I'd started this thread about nine months ago when Weasel and I first got our hammocks...so I have to admit that at this point I don't have any dates planned at this point.

Definitely open to suggestions. I've not done any cold weather hanging yet in my rig, but think that Wes and I could manage some relatively cool temps with what we've got.

I'd be willing to help setup a couple of runs if we'd like...something in Spring, and something sooner if there's interest.

What dates sound good to y'all? I'm not sure on anything before year's end right now (but MIGHT be able to swing something)...but anything Jan forward I can try to plan for.

It'd be nice to meet up with some of you folks that I've met (Walking Bear, Dudorino, Burning Cedar)...and very cool to meet up with some more of the "local folks" that I've not met.

Heck, we've got enough here in the greater KC area to get together at Barnes & Nobles to meet up sometime!

come in from the Stull side? Realize, I worked at Alvamar Country Club for about 2 years driving there from Topeka on the backroads. I used to bundle up in my overalls, put on a raincoat and get on the motorcycle. If it was under 15 degrees, I took the car. Silly little Honda 400. I used to LOVE getting across the Shawnee/Douglas county line because the speed limit went up to 55 mph. 10 mph is a lot more wind BUT the extra power needed to get there made that engine heat right up. And it felt SOOOOOO good.

Went thought Stull twice a day. Shoot, I came up on the corner west side hill before you drop down into snow at 55 one day on the cycle and just got around the curve, and there was an inch of snow all the way till I pulled up to the top by 40 on the east side of Stull. You want a wake up call. Dry roads to slick as snot snow on a motorcycle? Don't know how I stayed up at low speeds let alone get to them from 55mph. But it's a straight shot. 50 yards earlier and I wouldn't have been out of the lean.

    Anyways, I look it up.

Ooh, there was this one time I got caught working late seeding on the course. I came up on the West side of Stull where 40 turns north then the road turns west again and is Shawnee County 45th st. Well I had my daytime, dark green visor on and there was a grass fire on both sides of the road for a good 1/4 mile that I road through. Now, it wasn't a tunnel in the flame or anything like that but that's how I remember. Real Kodak moment.

Yep, on the Stull side. Matter of fact, Stull is where you turn South on E250/Co Rd 1023. Go a couple of miles til you hit N1250, and turn left (East). It's a gravel road, so it's easy to miss. Stay on that about a mile or so and you'll see the signs point you to turn left on a dirt road to get to the campsite.

Pretty remote. The good thing is...it's free. One thing I'm not sure about now that I think about it is if that well is active during the winter...they may shut it down to prevent it from freezing once the gates close.

Might be a 'bring your own water' run during the off-season.

I'd be up for an outing sooner.

Was out at Pomona lake early Nov. Wolf creek cg is really nice, plus free since out of season. Was facing sw,
the sun setting over the lake was awesome.

    Where ever.
