    Northern Hang May 27-29

So I've been looking at the maps today and kind of drawing a blank on were to look for this hike. I know that some have done the porcupine lake to lake three stretch before. From there (lake three) to Mellon is roughly 10 to 12 miles, and the end of the national forest. Last year we did a small stretch be drummond.
So my questions is if we want a three day hike is it ok with those having done this stretch to cover some of the trails again. I'm kind of thinking of starting at a point (not sure yet) and ending up in the town of mellon. Copper falls state park is only a couple miles out of town and has a nice waterfall right on the trail system. Which would make a nice ending location.

So start throwing some ideas out here, and in the mean time I will start looking over these areas.

P.S Looks like the majority of the people would like memorial day weekend.

That is a beautiful patch of country, near where I grew up. (Now you knowwhat the Wisconsin star in my avatar stands for!)

Copper Falls SP has phenomenal hiking and scenery, but I've never gone outside its boundaries. Does it connect to another trail system?

For myself, it won't matter, I won't make the northern hang because I'm scheduled to go to.....wait for it...... Tokyo that weekend.

The silver lining is that I may not need a flashlight at night after I come back!!

I sure loved that Porcupine Lake site...... lots of trees. Also the hike to Mellon was cool .....we could slow down and stretch it out.
I'm game for whatever shakes out and hope to make it.

Everything sounds awesome to me and I'm up for whatever you guys suggest. A friend from ships just asked me to cruise with them for a week, so depending on the days will determine if I can make it or not. Thanks for staying on top of it Snipen.

I realy liked hiking over there and would have no problem hiking
that country some more. Even the same trails.
I like the idea of hiking all three days.
The wife said she may come and where both up to hiking 10 mile days.
Snipen thanks for keeping the ball rolling !

I'm still working out where we will be starting. I'mgoing to look for a location where we can all meet either Thursday night or Friday morning and start hiking, with a possible meet site Friday night as well for any that cant make it till late friday.

For those new to these northern hangs, in the past we have usually met some where the first night and had a group diner and then hiked out from there. The next day or two are spent then hiking the trail with and end point some where down the trail. We of course do not have to do the same this year of course, its more just an idea.

Don that sounds great. In the past the average has been around ten miles a day.

I am personal looking at going out Thursday night and hoping to hike at least three days this year. Either that or going into Monday, will wait and see what everyone else is planning.

If any one some ideas or suggestions please throw them out here. Everything is considered especially since I may be organizing this, I am defiantly not in charge.

And yes, from the poll it will be memorial day weekend.

Awesome! I really like the idea of hiking too. It's going to be great to finally meet some of you and am really looking forward to hitting the woods. I did some research on NCT and it sounds awesome. I'm up for wherever the veterans of the Northern hang decide.

I have never hiked the NCT, but it sounds like the area would be great. I like the idea of hiking all 3 days and 10 miles sounds about right to me. I might be able to get up there Thursday night and plan to leave sometime Monday

I appreciate your taking the reigns with this Snipen. You may not be leading, but you seem to know how to keep things moving forward.
