    Whoopie!!!

Finally got my shipment in and started on my setup. First thing I tackled was the whoopie sling. The sling was pretty easy to figure out, until I realized that the other end was not yet attached to the hammock. I wanted a fixed loop that I can use a marlin hitch/toggle and realized that I should have made the locked brummel knot first, so I had to follow TrailH4x's post on the brummel using one end of the rope. Figured that out after forever, and went on to the next whoopie. This time I did the brummel 1st (much easier) and went on the the whoopie part. I think I like the results of the 1st one better. Mainly because the adjustable part has the little tail, with no chance of the rope being pulled through. I guess you would have to worry about the loop being sucked into the splice with the other way, but I think I trust myself more with the tail on the spliced bit.

    here's a snap of what I mean...

Nice work! I can't wait until my amsteel arrives so that I can start doing a bit of DIY as well. Have you had a chance to hang from them yet?

Where are you buying your amsteel from these days?
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

I took part in the group buy that Opie organized. I have previously purchased some from Paul at Arrowhead Equipment but only bought enough for a pair of whoopee slings. I think most of the U.S folk on the forum purchase it from Redden Marine since they offer a discount for forum members. A quick search will give you the discount code.

To buy it here in Australia is a joke. I can import it for less than a third of the cost of buying locally.
