New to hammocks, Just got my HH expedition asym

been lookin around but would love to hear of tips or easy upgrades to it. I messed up and didnt get snake skins which id love and I know I want the larger rainfly. But only been able to lay in it once so far, it was comfy but im not used to sleeping on my back. any feedback would be great.

You're going to want to change the suspension on the hammock. There's a few ways you can go but most of us (I think) use whoopie slings. You can either buy the 7/64" amsteel and make your own or you can go to websites like arrowheadequipment.webs.com and whoopieslings.com to get a full set-up. It's very simple and fun to make whoopie slings, I would recommend making them. There's lots of other stuff you can do to mod your Hennessy but changing the suspension out is a good start.

Whoopies are the way to go with a HH. You can also convert the stuff sack into a Bishop Bag by cutting a small hole in the bottom...it's not the same as 'skins, but it makes it easier to hang / pack without it touching the ground.

I've never tried Whoopies, but I'll be honest, the stock suspension is really not that bad. The lashing they show you how to do is super easy and will never tighten up on you. I still have the stock stuff on mine and I have used it lots of times. If you are not someone who is comfortable modding your own equipment, then you will be fine with what you have.
The bag idea is also a great idea. I have the snake skins and don't use them. They are simple and great for protection, but they actually make the wrapped up hammock bigger than just stuffing it in a bag. So if you are going for backpacking, I like the bag.

I would suggest getting some insulation for underneath. That's my first recomendation. Either an under quilt or the Super Shelter. I have the SS and really like it.

    Congrats and welcome!

I only had mine a day before I had to take it in for an exchange cause bug screen ripped away from skirt (new one comes in like 6 - 9 days), but I really liked the stock suspension. The figure 8 lashing is really easy.

Good question. It's both. You can use the included open cell pad and a space blanket and that will keep you warm down into freezing temps. By adding extra stuff (coats, extra clothes, whatever you don't need while sleeping) into the super shelter, you can go even lower. Or you can just use the cover if it's really warm out. The space blanket is a great idea most of the time though as it acts as both a heat reflector, and a vapor barrier. In other words, it stops your back side from getting wet from condensation!
