    Question about UQ durability

I've been happy with my pad system but still find myself reading all the threads on UQ's. A question of overall durability keeps surfacing. I've hung over rocks, briars, blown down trees, streams, as well as the typical high grass and bare ground. I'm concerned about ripping up the UQ. Those of you with UQ's, what has been your experience and advice to this point? Thanks.

I just pay more attention about what I set-up over top of instead of just hanging and sleeping. I also tend to hang a few inches higher most of the time than I did during the summer with no UQ.

Worth the tiny bit of extra diligence for the comfort of a UQ vs a pad IMO.

I take the same precautions with my UQ as I do with my hammock bottom.

Anymore I try not to hang over anything too crazy unless I have to. To me it is more of a pain to pack up than anything else.

I've seen what you do to the bottom of hammocks, doesn't offer much comfort about the UQ.

I don't know what you are talking about

It does look like you have already checked out at work and started hiking.

I've checked out of work without leaving work; I'm still sitting behind the desk I'm just not doing much these days. 4 days of being employed left. I'm starting to get all 'misty' and stuff.

That's great. Myself I haven't checked back in yet.

As for underquilt durability, I would say that my nest and ns (as and underquilt) have done quilt well in holding up to the riggers of my backpacking trips. As for where I hang, I try not, as HE said, to hang over anything to crazy. Not really out of fear of ripping my UQ (the briars would put that concern into me though) but being dumped by my prevouis DIY hammocks. They have all held, and if I weighed less then there wouldn't really be any concern about being dumped.

The quilt will be fine long as you treat it with care. Like HE said, I treat the UQ just like I do with the bottom of the hammock. When I camp in the bush and scrub I always take the time to clear out branches and other things that could rip, snag, or tear my tarp, hammock, or UQ.
