    Backpacker Magazine Gear Guide

Hammock Forums own Jacks 'R' Better LLC was recently included in Backpackers Gear Guide for 2011...Although preveously having several articles in Backpacker that featured JRB quilts, this was our first inclusion in the Annual Gear Guide itself.

It was really nice to be included with the really big boys and girls...

If you did not notice, the bags section had 36 manufactures with over 450 bags and top quilts listed, probably double that number if sizes per model are included... AND...

JRB was the only manufacture with two down bags/TQ below 16 oz. Actually the JRB Shenandoah was lightest and least expensive TQ and the JRB Stealth TQ tied with three others for second lowest also, yet clearly the best value.

The lightest down bag/TQ for 40* summer range:
    JRB Shenandoah...15 oz.... $190
    JRB Stealth......... 16 oz.... $210
    FF Viereo..............16 oz... $239
    MB SS#5..............16 oz.... $234
    WM HL.................16 oz.....$270

On the other end of the spectrum there were only five down bags/TQ rated at 15* or below, and under two pounds...Two of which were our JRB quilts. The JRB Old Rag Mountain was the lightest and least expensive. The second place in both lightness and best value was the JRB High Sierra Sniveller.

The lightesr down bags/TQ 15 or below winter range:
    JRB ORM...........25 oz........$300
    JRB HSS............27 oz.......$ 325
    SD Vapor...........31 oz......$440
    TN Lazer 900......31 oz......$650
    WM Apache.......32 oz.......$410

Tops overall in both light weight and value in both summer and winter.

Congrats! Well deserved. My JRB No Sniveler is a prized possesion, and has kept me toasty on many outtings so far.

Then Shenandoah is on my "I want" list, and for good reason. Ya'll make excellent stuff!!!

Can we get autographed copies of the mag. at the MAHHA?

Ya'll bring the magazines and we will bring a pen....Sure glad that none of us have to pack them in more than a 100 yards or so...

Sure am looking forward to the MAHHA...25 days and a wake up.

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I plan to bring my coveted collection of Backpacker Bathroom Reading to MAHHA to redistribute, and I'm pleased that the magazine is giving Jacks-r-Better well-deserved name recognition in a wider market.
