    Snake Skins...Question

When the HH arrived 2nd hand the snake skins was around the entire top & hammock - I have been unable to put it all back in the SS without having a bunched ball in the middle. So I watched the videos and the snake skins are just for the top right? I watched how they fold it up and put the guy lines in.

or am I packing it wrong?

OK perhaps a more direct question, are the snakes skins for the entire hammock system or just the tarp?

I use my skins on my tarp so I can set it up first. The snake skins will hold the hammock too but you may be pushing the limit with the Super Shelter too. Go to a bishop bag set up, then you can get pretty much get any thing stowed you want. Of course the Bishop bag must be big enough. I use a bishop for my under quilt and the top quilt stays in the hammock which all goes into the Bishop Bag. Then the tarp gets done last in the skins.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

the fly, the hammock and the supershelter without the pad will all fit into the skins no problem. there is even a video where someone packs the pad in as well (!). it will be easier with practice ;-)

    Hi
I got an Asym and Scout for my two boys. They came with 2 set of skins and I ordered two more. The tarps fit into the skins with little fiddle, but the hammocks are a different story for us. It takes a bit of effort and time...we are getting better at it.

Since then, I've seen people mention sizes of snake skins from HH...these did not have any size written on the package, so I wonder about the possibilities.

For our DIY hammocks, I made generous snake skins that pack up the rig in seconds...much preferred.

If the shag persists, maybe you'd consider making your own or buying another roomier set....

I use my snake skins with my hammock and super shelter only. I get a small bulge in the middle that I get packed in the skins with some finesse. It helps to anticipate the bulge about 2' from each side of the center, but I always seem to forget until I've got the bulge and I end up backing off some and re-doing it. I roll up the foam pad separately in it's own bag. I like to hang the tarp on it's own ridgeline, so I do not pack it in the snakeskins. It's personal preference, but I like the idea of being able to hang the tarp first in bad weather, then be able to work under cover to get the rest of the hammock set up. Hope that helps.

Hennessy used to make snake skins in 4 sizes, but they finally stopped making all but the largest size, I think.

i use my ss for my tarp only. when i slide the 1st skin over the first end of the tarp i slide it about a foot and a half past the center. then i slide the the 2nd one to the center (over the first one) then slide 1st one back to the end of the tarp. that way i don't have to hand stuff anything.

I also use the snakeskins on a Clark N.A. hammock. But only the tarp portion.
I find it easier to have the Clark tarp seperated from the hammock and hang it first while it is covered by the snake skins to get my tarp anchor lines out of the way before I hang the actual clark hammock.
Once I have the snake skin covered clark tarp hung between my two trees, I then hang and adjust the clark.
Once the Clark is hung, I slide back the skins and set up /adjust the Clark tarp.
I never really tried to put Skins on a North American Clark Hammock, never really saw the need to. Those skins work real well for me as a tarp cover.
