Walmart has the newer release of the same Brother machine I'm borrowing from JimTanker for about $80...I'm getting my own next month! It's worked great for me so far, and I've used it for some pretty tough stuff. Like my suspension straps. Ten loops each, three bartacks per loop, three layers of webbing per bartack. And still going strong

Thrift stores and Salvation Army stores sometimes have good deals on decent machines, I've heard.

Oh man a homemade sewing machine. Well I am a Maintenance Supervisor so I am sure I can come up with a 5hp motor and all the chain and sprockets and all the other parts I need. And I have access to a welder. Just have to get my house wired for 480 volts hehe. Hmmmmm

Yea I saw that Brother machine at Wally World. I will check out Goodwill and the Salvation Army first though.

Wish I could sew. I'd love a pair of homemade Pythons. Snakeskins #4 barely fit with my Nest.

Guys, it's one of the easiest things you'll ever learn. Riding a bike makes this look like falling down. I promise!

I have a sewing machine that my wife never uses. I bought it for her a year ago. The real reason I bought it for her was so I could use it. Don;t tell her I said that. I have never had any luck with it though. Every time I try to sew something the stitches are always to looks or it is to tight and pulls the fabric together. I need someone to teach me how to us it.

Attrol my suggestion is if you don't have family or friends that are available to teach you is to find a local sewing shop and inquire about classes. We have a small Mom & Pop sewing shop here and they are always offering classes. I am thinking about joining one just to get me started off on the right foot and pick up bad habits before the bad habits set in.

Heres an idea since alot of the hammock gear is homemade and a bunch of the folks that frequent here do their on mods and make their own gear would it be benificial to have a sub section specific to sewing?

It could be helpful to have it consolidated on here. A lot of it's already out there, though. Like this one - it's the best sewing primer I've seen for the kinds of materials we work with.

Prolly answer all of attroll's questions - have a look.
