REI has 1/8 shockcord by the foot for like .25, 1/4" costs exactly the same.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys! I'll check it out.
I have bought tent repair shockcord from Academy Sports in AL. I think it was 47' of shock cord for maybe $3-$4. I don't know what size it was but it is small; probably about the size of 7/64" Amsteel under load, so maybe 1/8". For the price it seems pretty good. I have some and I can weigh it if you want, but I think you said you weren't too worried about weight. PM me if you are interested.
My local hardware store sells several sizes of shock cord by the foot or roll/spool
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Here is a thread I started that will answer the line management problem and sources for shockcord...maybe it will help you.

Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
Here's my choice for guyline stock:

It holds knots well, and doesn't stretch, rot, or abrade. admittedly it will tangle if you leave it to itself, but at 210lbs load strength and at about 35 feet per ounce, it appeals to the ultralighter in me.

the 1.25 mm line works well...
Car and moto hammocking is normally not the focus here...these are mostly backpacking folk ya see. Their advice is going to be toward weight and then space savings. I just "worked" on my set up with AHE tarps on the Byer Vario hammock stand and, because I motorcycle hang, found that a set (6) of my bungie cords work perfectly for it. Try it before you hang out in the wild and you may want to do the same set up at camp.
In camp I plan to use tree straps attached to Nite-Ize adjustable bungies (to snug up each end of the ridge) and then use four regular ones for the corners. I found the front porch mode was simple to set up and take down when the cords were placed right and everything stayed taut as a drum. Nothing like the custom high speed low drag rigs but they work very well and, especially for us moto hangers, dual use.
Oh, I hear ya brother! Seems I had to purchase a camper shell to fit my F150 in order to haul all the "stuff" up to Mackinaw this year (and who's idea was it to bring the kids!) So, weight is not my issue either. As long as my hammock is the first thing in the truck and the first thing out of the truck at camp, I don't care what weights what. And honestly, even if I'm backpacking, my pack never seems to fall below the age of retirement.
That said, I've learned a great deal from this group of crazy backpacking, hammock-hanging, whoopie-slinging tarp lovers about trimming things down. For example, my guy lines went from 550 cord down to the cord used in mini blinds! (Makes my truck ride a little smoother too )

That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.
Guys don't get me wrong, I do not mind saving weight. Just wanted to let you all know that weight is not my biggest concern. I have just read a lot of posts here about the different types of line and it was getting confusing. Mainly just wanting to know what is the best line to use to tie out your tarp?
