    Zip Vs. Velcro

Hey HH hangers! I was looking to purchase either an ultralight or hyperlight hammock, but I was wondering what the general consensus was on the new zipper hammocks. Do they get jammed? Is it more/less comfortable? Is it easier/harder to get in and out?

I would love to make this purchase before May, so I would love some honest advice from the people who have been there.

    Thanks!

I am an old-school HH user.

I actually like the velcro entrance! I am also a big guy with a bad back, so it is the easiest way for me to enter and depart the hammock.

OTOH, many of the folks here are dedicated zipper fans. Zips allow opening the net when not needed. And I will probably have my HH modified for zips this spring. But I am keeping the velcro slit.

I rather like the bottom entry on the HH. I do want a zipper mod so I can pin back the bug net when i don't need it. Mainly because it isn't as nice for lounging and talking with others. I would probably still ender from the bottom 80% of the time.

In contrast to the other replies, I haven't used the bottom entry since I had the zip mod done. I find it much easier to get in/out using the zipper.

ZQ here...you can have both! Purchase an original bottom entry, then have a zipper mod done. Check out our website.

+1 on having the double option
    Thankyou ZQ
I use the zipper when I have anything hanging under me
And I like having the velcro option if the bugs are real bad or when I am trying to get in if it is raining and I am using just my aysm tarp

this is really helpful. Do the zippers ever get jammed?

= Do the zippers ever get jammed?
The only time my zipper got jammed was when some of my sleeping bag got caught up in it. Other than that, no zipper issues at all!

i have a zippered ultralite explorer and my gf has the velcro'd hyperlite and i can see the merits of both

the velcro would be really nice when bugs are a factor, but i don't like the way it will work with and under-quilt or a super system, the velcro does save you an ounce or two of weight though and it's very easy to get in and out of

i really like the zipper on mine, i can get the netting out of the way when i don't need it and can also use the hammock as a chair, something you can't do with just the velcro entrance, i think it would also be easier to adjust any sort of insulation you have hanging under the hammock if you have the zipper closure

having seen and used both, i would go with the zippered model if i had to purchase another one
