Thought some of you might find this funny... My scouts call an underquilt and underbelly! Took me a second to realize what they were talking about...kinda funny!

If my scouts started using that kind of language, it could get real ugly before I realized they were talking about my hammock instead of me.

hahaha
I'm looking forward to this weekend when I'll introduce our Cub Scouts to hammock camping.
I doubt any of them have seen anyone pitch a hammock instead of a tent.
Last year, one of the Dad's set up his Eno for a snooze in the afternoon, but put it away before he slept in his tent overnight.
Anyhow... should be interesting
Also should be interesting to see how they react to the idea that I made all of my hammock gear.
I just hope that none of the creative terms they use to talk about my stuff is too harsh. Not sure my delicate ego could take their criticism.

Our spring camporee is this weekend coming up. I helped with the outdoor leader training this past weekend. Everyone of the leaders set up their tents out in the field, the wind being pretty strong. I'm set up in the woods with a little protection from it. The camporee coming up, is at the local fair grounds. (Read-- NO TREES!!!) So knowing this ahead of time, I'll have my DIY stand ready to go. Should be a good time.

Just got back from our Spring Camporee.
Friday Night calm 42 degrees
Sat night 10 mph wind and 46 degrees
Tested a butchered old sleeping bag made into an underquit using my pack cover on the outside for a wind shield and my standard mummy bag as a TQ and I was toasty warm!
Had close to 100 scouts and leaders look at my hammock/tarp rig. Will be helping otehrs set up their rigs over the next few campouts.
What really impressed them was when I took it down you could not tell where my campsite had been...every place there was a tent the ground had a beaten look especially at the doorway!
This weekend second son & I are hammocking for a soccer tournament instead of staying at the hotel....we have one other father/son combo going with us and will be converting them to above-ground dwellers soon!
Lovin it!

Then your hammock is a ship, of sorts. Under belly being a bit of a nautical term.
The USS Blackbird with her Yeti Underbelly! (For instance)
It is interesting to see their minds work! I am working on converting some of the scouts and think I have the other scoutmaster about ready to as well!
