ENO tarps

I haven't gotten any sap on it yet but when I do, I will use peanut butter. It won't hurt the fabric and will keep the pine sap from sticking. Just work it in and wipe it off.

Just don't do it in the field. The bears will eat your tarp..

Took my Sunday afternoon siesta today. Rain was coming, so I put up my Pro fly in storm mode, low on the windward side and a little higher on the leeward side. At the head end I had it head high.

Came a pretty good thunderstorm with a little over 1/2 inch of rain, some wind and some very LOUD thunder. Stayed dry and enjoyed the nap. This is my third time in the rain with the Pro fly. Works real well for me.

I really like sleeping with the sound of rain hitting the tarp. Reminds me of sleeping in the barn on hy bales.

Lots better in the hammock looking out at the rain instead of cooped up in a tent.

Wow! If I'd spent the night out there I could've really found out how my set up works. Had Tornado warning around 8:30. Heavy, heavy rain. Wind reports of 95 to 100 mph just a few miles south of us. The light show was spectacular! Something like that would make for an intersting time!!! All over in an hour, then just steady rain. Had 5 inches of rain from it.

What do you long time hangers do if you get caught out in something like this? I've rode out out some pretty bad storms when I was tent camping, but don't think any had tornado warnings with them.

A little off topic, but to answer your question:
Lots of Lightning....bail.

Tornado warning nearby.....Bail.

Light thunderstorm....depends on a lot of factors, really.

Lightning will kill you dead if it is even close, doesn't matter if you camped in it for 50 years, it just takes once.

High winds...You are in a hammock now so you are not out in the open (in a tent) away from the trees and branches that will fall on you.

I was caught with my rig set up for the night on my first hang. The lightning show was awesome the winds were strong the rain fell hard( maybe 1.5 in)
My hammock stayed dry, I did too....in the pavilion I took shelter under. When I came back to my hammock, all was fine, I slept good. I had that luxury. You don't always have that.

Whether you are in a hammock or hiking, same rules apply.

What did you use as the center line for your tarp? The line that is with it or a ridgeline? Just wondering how you got the tarp head high on the leward side!

Used the lines that came with the tarp. Had the tie out (not ridgeline)on the corner of the head side tied to a tree in porch mode. Actually had all tieouts tied to nearby trees.

Since ENO tarps appear to be on the small side I was pleased with the protection it gave. Also the area I was in had a good amount of undergrowth blocking some of the wind. I'm sure that helped.

Thanks for the info. I also have a profly and was just wondering how you had it set up. I am thinking about buying a Kelty 9 or 12 soon. I will probably get the 12. In the tarp for doublenest thread chorpie posted pics of his!
