Ridgeline length, sag, hammock length, etc.

I bought my first hammock and I don't see nearly the amount of sag when the hammock is unloaded or when I'm laying in it that I routinely see elsewhere. Going on the starting point of the ridgeline being 83% of the hammock's length, I was thinking 109-110" for this hammock that's supposed to be 11'. It's only 98" long. Whipping to whipping is about 9'. Is it possible the hammock isn't really 11' and I may have received the wrong hammock body? I slept in it for the first time last this week with a 72" pad. I felt like I was struggling to get the diagonal lay to get flat without the angle being so severe that the pad was into the bug net.

I was expecting the ridgeline to be way to long, based on the sag I have and when I'm sitting in the hammock, it's barely above my head. I was surprised it was only 98", making it 74% of the hammock length, if it is 11'. Without untying the ridgeline to stretch the hammock out flat/straight and measuring, is there any other way to confirm I got an 11' hammock?

    What hammock??

Nearly all of the vendors on Amazon mislead by calling the spec 11' when in fact the hammock body itself is 8' or 9' and then include the suspension in the total length.

True 11' hammocks on Amazon are as rare as hen's teeth.

Lay the hammock on the ground......gather the hammock up against the ridgeline and pull it to the end and measure hammock. There should be some hammock leftover that is not against the ridgeline. Measure that. Add the two hammock lengths. Take into account the hems. Many claim to be 11' but that is before they hem and sew.

My first thought would be to contact the person or vendor you bought it from. It is also possible if the hammock was designed for continuous loops on the ends and it is whipped it may have lost some legnth there too.

I deliberately left the brand out until I hear back from CS to give them the opportunity to answer the question and if there is a mistake, for them to fix it. I'm not one to go public unless it's necessary and the vendor/brand deserves the praise or bashing. It's not an Amazon/Chinese special. I'll measure when I get home in a couple of hours.

Whipping may be the wrong terminology. I have continuous loops on the ends to work with Dutch's beetle buckles.

Years ago I ordered a Ticket to the Moon hammock, which they listed as being 10.5’ long. That measurement at best must have included the loops at the end because it ended up being basically as short as, or a hair shorter than, the 116” (9.6’) Therm-a-rest Slacker hammock that I also had.

Let us know how those measurements turn out!

I understand. The CLs are larks headed onto a loop in the fabric at the end of the whipping, not onto the whipping itself, several inches inward from the end of the material. I talked to Alex at Dutchware about how you can do larks head CLs on netless hammocks to make them smaller for children.

An easy way to check the hammock length without removing the Ridgeline, is to double the hammock so that the two ends meet, then measure from the point where the fabric is free to splay out to the midpoint or fold, of the hammock and then double that. Compare that to the measured ridgeline.
