    Hang Height

I am building a hanging area in my backyard. The hammock used will be a WBBB 1.7.

With the posts at exactly 18' apart, what is the minimum height for the suspension to attach to the posts to get the proper 20-30 degree angle, also, to be 1' off the ground with a weighted hammock? I know it might be difficult to judge height without know the weight in the hammock.

I ask this because I want to know the height to set the posts at and also because I do not have the hammock yet.

Hope I made this as clear as possible - this is all new to me. Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    G-OUT

PS. I was just looking at my situation in the yard and might go a completely different route. Not sure yet.

I'd estimate the attachment points would have to be around 6.5' to 7' high or so.

If it were me, I would set the posts with 8' to 10' above the ground. Then I would build a small pergola over it. This would give the slightest bit of shade, give an aesthetic view year round, and I suppose that you could put a vine up one or both sides that would put some fragrance and flowers above my head.

At 8 feet it would give me plenty of height to set the straps where ever I want them. This way if I use a different hammock, then I still have some adjustment room.

    Just a thought.

I tried using 4x4 post but they broke. Luckly the ground broke my fall.

Got a deal on 2 - 12ft pier pilings (think telephone pole) and they are bomb proof. I hang my hammocks straps about 6.5 to 7 feet off the ground.

Broke a 4x4? I didn't think it could be done. Nothing will move those pilings!
