Camping near Rocky Mtn National park

After posting about camping in Rocky Mtn National park people gave me the heads up that it was more of a day hiking park and I would like to build a campfire at night which you cant do in the park. Does anyone have some suggestions on places to go in the surrounding area for a 3 day hike 5 to 10 miles a day hopefuly with some fishing in there some place?

Is there any online places to buy maps?

    Thanks

You can build a campfire in RMNP (unless there is a fire ban due to dryness), but it has to be built in an existing fire ring. There are several backcountry sites with fire rings.

Regardless, there is plenty of camping around the park. I'll take a look at some stuff when I get home, but Hwy 7 south of Estes Park has several formal campgrounds that will accommodate hammocks just fine. Many folks camp there to do early morning 14ers in the area, so you won't see too many R/Vs at those campgrounds. Mostly just poor unenlightened tenters.

Check out the Roosevelt National Forest north of the park or the Indian Peaks Wilderness area along the south. The Never Summer Range to the west of the park has some nice areas as well.

In the park, the hike from the Neota Wilderness to the the Trail Ridge road goes along the very headwaters of the Colorado River. It is a very nice hike.
