Would like to join you but schedule is pretty tight through July. That's a great area and definitely an ideal spot to help you dial in your setup. Your perserverance is going to win out, I can sense it.

haha thankyou. its a favourite spot of mine
Newton,
Be very careful and do not leave anything visible in your car while camping there. There have been a lot of car break-ins in that area the last few years. A couple of years ago while fishing on the Chattooga my car got broken into and I lost close to $2500 worth of stuff.
thats a great spot, it has that mountain feel without the painfull elevation gains, you should check out the hot springs hang in may
Ive heard that it happens alot but ive never had a problem with it. i do try and stash my cd player and things like that just out of instinct and have tinted windows but I also go and check my stuff in the mornings if i didnt hike very far in. but I love it down there.
I just got back from my 1st trip to that area, and I must say that it was beautiful. I'd certainly be up for going again, but I will have to see how my schedule plays out. Here's my trip report, if you're interested (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=31385). Bring a tarp even if the weather report calls for clear skies. We had a brief but intense storm strike us on a day with 0-10% chance of rain!
Dayhiked from Burrell's Ford to Highway 28 yesterday just after the rains quit. The river was roaring! Had to bushwack twice due to the trail being under water.
The camp sites at Burrell's Ford are very nice. They look very well maintained or almost new. Still waiting for my wife's Blackbird to get here. But throw out some dates and we will see how it goes.
