This is my project for the 4th. I figure I can have Home Depot do all the cuts, and all I'll need to do is drill the holes and assemble. The PDF really makes it look reasonable. I will be making it so I can toss it up on the Rav (the arms and supports will be removable), and the legs will have 2 extra pcs of 2x4 for mor stability (it will be carrying a 350ish load).

My only question is, how tall is it with 6' arms (I'm guessing, 5'7")?

Just got back from Home Depot (had them do all/most of the cuts). With a 1/2" drill bit the total was 73.43 (MA has a 6.25% sales tax).

Now on to measuring the holes and start drilling...

Just finished my DIY Hammock Stand

Great project for the fourth! I just went and measured mine, it's 5'11" from the ground to the tip top. Hope all goes smoothly. You should be hanging in no time!

Well guys, I'm one lazy guy. I think I will finally have it built today. I changed the base to 2x6 8', the 2 supports to 2x4 5', adding a 3rd base leg and will put supports for them. Sadly, I have to go to Home Depot to get longer bolts for the base 8" isn't going to work so I will need to bump them to 10" ones. Wish me luck...

Just finished my version of this hammock stand.
Made it foldable by putting single uprights on the out side og the base.
To fold it simply remove the diagonal supports by removing bolts, and fold

    Hi JJthedog,

Thanks a lot for your ideas about a hammock stand design. Just finished mine tonight.
I slightly modified your version and made it a little bit lighter. Here are my Sketchup drawings and some pictures. BTW, I am 210 lbs and the stand is quite stable and handles me pretty good.

Please let me know should you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Alex

Just finished my DIY Hammock Stand

We bought a hammock from Guatemala but nowhere to hang it. My wife suggested Pinterest for ideas and I found this forum. So happy I did!

I've bought all the material necessary. I've planned some modifications that I will share once I'm done. I've based it primarily on JJ's stand with slight mods.

I want to thank all of you for sharing your variations on this type of stand! My neighbour came by as I started cutting some of the pieces and when I shared my plans he said it was overkill. Oh we'll, I'm not deviating from my plan due to overkill! Ha!

I'll post pics from start to finish.

Just finished my DIY Hammock Stand

Many of the other stands I looked into on this forum when I was doing research for a stand, were based on being as light as possible or portable. I was looking to build something that was more sturdy and would only be intended to maybe move around the yard. So overbuilding was kind of a given. I've personally had close to 300 pounds in it and it didn't show any signs of trouble. It's also as strong and sturdy today as it was the day I built it 28 months ago. People have made some great modifications to meet their needs. It seems to be an easy to customize design. It's always great to see what everyone else comes up with!

Alex - I've been meaning to make a sketchup file and post it on here, but haven't had the time. It was cool to see that you used sketchup to plan out your stand. You might motivate me to finally get around to it! Maybe I'll try to sneak that in tomorrow, sometime between the pancake breakfast, auto repairs, and yard work. Or I might take a nap cause that sounds exhausting.

Well, I got up this morning and made a 3d model in SketchUp of the hammock stand. I can't currently attach it to a post, so if anyone is interested, send me a message and I'll email it to you. If I am able to post it I will later.
