I asked the moderator to add support for SketchUp files. Thanks Rick!

For anyone who doesn't know SketchUp is a free Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) program. It's super easy to learn and use. It was a Google program but I think they spun it off. I made a model of the stand so you can open this file and rotate around it in 3D. You could also use my model as a starting point to make modifications of your own. Anyway, it's just another way to see the design. This model is meant to be a supplement to the original drawing, which has parts lists, measurements, pictures, etc.

    You can download SketchUp here:
    http://www.sketchup.com/

Attached are the SketchUp file (.skp) and I've reattached the original plans (.pdf) here so you don't have to go hunt through all the pages.

Hahaha. Of course I find this *today* after putting the final screw in, apart from the eye hooks XD

This is so similar to what I came up with, but with so many improvements (for one, rather than using spacers I just screwed my 2x4's together which has made things like... attaching support boards, and the eye hook for that matter... really interesting. I'm currently looking for bow eye/U bolts that are exactly the right width to go across the 'short' side without splitting the wood and also long enough to go through the 'long' side)

If mine fails, this will be what we try next!

(I swear I searched every term I could think of to find a thread like this!)

LOVE sketchup... haven't gotten to use it nearly enough since being laid off from the home building company...

    Sketchup

    Hi Jjthedog,

I am glad that I have motivated you to make your model in Sketchup and you've finally got some time to do it. I really like the CAD tool and appreciate very much its accuracy.

    Regards,

    Alex

Has anyone ever modified a steel tube backyard hammock stand to work with a gathered end nylon hammock. I have one that was designed to be used with a woven rope flat hammock and I want to modify it to work with my Eno Double Nest. Anyone try this before and would be willing to give some starting points? Thanks Gang!!

I also added these files to my blog if anyone has any trouble downloading from the forum. Several people have contacted me saying they couldn't download. Doesn't seem to be any problem here, so I don't know what's going on but I thought it couldn't hurt to have a backup option.

I was looking diy hammock stands from Google and found this forum. This particular stand was looking best for me. I needed to make the stand little smaller to make it fit to my flat's balcony. I also made the stand little more "refined".

I post some pics after I finish building the stand next week.

    Thank you all (especially jjthedog)!

    WARNING!!!

Make sure that your eyebolts are set so that the gap in the eye is down. I noticed the other day that mine were set up, and that is what has been causing extra wear on my whoopies. My eye bolts have enough of a gap for the amsteel to slip in a little bit, making it very tough to release them after they have been loaded. An elementary mistake, but when you don't use the stand often enough.....
