As a fellow widebody and WBBB owner I feel your pain, well not literally!!!!!!!! I have found that once I get the hammock hung just right it is easier to get out of. It also helps that I learned to get my backside as close to the edge of the fabric before I get into the "wheezing whale" position and drop my legs out. From there its a couple of baby steps back getting my head over the center of gravity and I can stand up. It will also help with some more ab work, still working on those myself. Good luck and keep hanging!!!!!!!!

As for the getting out of the hammock I remember reading the some one strung an extra rope (don't know the type) to aid in the clambering out of the hammock. As a rule for me I hang to foot end higher than the head end. to keep from sliding as you said. Maybe check for stray sticks under the hammock next time as a just in case.

I am glad you said you planned on giving up right away. Keep on truckin'. Good luck next time.

You are a few steps farther ahead of me at this point. When I get my hammock and insulation, I plan on doing "car camping" for a few nights before doing anything more serious. This would be a good test for my system and would be able to bug out if need be.

yeah it took me about 2 years LOL ... well not really
i didn't find hammock forums till about 2 years into hammock camping..
so once i found this site it was like relearning all over again
but it takes time...don't give up...once you get it down pat and have alot of night under your belt you will be able to setup your rig in your sleep
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

Too funny! I too am struggling with some noob woes...getting the perfect hang, getting flat/comfy, etc. And I haven't even tried hanging my tarp yet! In fact, I'm still fiddling around with it mounted in my living room. I guess my point is, you are making great progress on the learning curve, Dain Bramage! Keep up the great efforts and amusing/insightful posts!!
