we used the CJK to cinch bulk items down to smaller sizes to fit more in our rucks in SERE School. it's a great knot for sure, i found a lot of uses for it over the years!

It appears the first knot mainly serves to stop the second overhand knot from running off the end of the line. If that is true, while the first overhand knot is very simple, any stopper knot would work, even a loop over a toggle. Any stopper knot might be a bit easier to remove, than the first overhand.

I find the most appealing part of this knot is its simplicity, along with its apparent high function.

I think you are right about the 'stopper-knot' function at the end of the rope. I never thought of using something simple that wouldn't get super-tight under load. This looks like a perfect place for a MSH (trail-stick).

I tried a small bead in the first overhand knot, and it made it easier to open it back up, if needed. Really, just about anything that would keep it from closing too tight on itself. Just remember to leave a bit of line out the end of whatever you do, so you have something to grab hold of when you go to release the knot.

It could be a heavily used knot for me. It has so many good uses while camping. Thanx Rug. I always hated lashing and this cuts the time down a whole lot.

Great knot - sure love the simplicity of this - much easier that a two and a half hitch, or taut line hitch. My kids love using my extra rope to tie over hand knots on anything they can find.

I was taught that knot by Mors Kochanski on one of his courses here in the UK a couple of years back, he called it a Jam knot, (no country of origin), and he was of the opinion it was the best knot ever. During his demonstration he actually crushed a couple of pine planks using it with cord you get for Venetian blinds, pretty impressive.
