    BRP, motorcycle 'n' me

A buddy on a motorcycling forum that I frequent posted up an invitation to meet up near Meadows of Dan, Virginia, at a motorcycle campground called Willville.

Since my wife was busy Saturday and Sunday, I decided to load up some hammock-camping gear and head up Saturday morning.

Since I was getting such a late start on the 275-or-so-mile ride, I decided to head up on the -- blech! -- Eisenhower Interstate System.

I did the Interstates up to Fancy Gap, VA, then caught the Blue Ridge Parkway for the last couple of dozen miles or so.

A stop at the rest area/welcome center on I-77.

Fancy Gap and the trip to Meadows of Dan was foggy and rainy. I got to the campground, said some hellos, and set up my hammock in a nice little area across a little stream from the main camping area.

I set up in the rain. What fun!

(this pic is actually from the next morning.)

I visited with some buddies through the evening and met some new folks, then turned in for the night. The rain had let up in the early evening.

I slept great, and I woke up to this view. (Sorry for the picture quality here and on others; I only had my phone's camera on this trip.Doh!)

I packed up Sunday morning, said my goodbyes, and headed out.

It was a beautiful, crisp morning.

I spent pretty much all day Sunday riding the Blue Ridge Parkway from meadows of Dan, VA, down to NC 215 west ("south") of Asheville, NC. It was a great day of riding.

Here are a few more pics from the day.

Briefly, I was the only person in the world who was in two states at once on the BRP.

There was a detour onto NC 18 that took me through Sparta, NC.

I love what my hairdresser, Helmet, does with my hair.

I explored a little gravel around Alta Pass.

I saw a buddy from Georgia at an overlook west of Asheville, turned around at the next chance, and met him on the road. I caught him at the same turnaround that I had used, about to turn around to chase me down.

He had a new-to-him '05 Yamaha FJR that he recently bought and that I hadn't seen.

We rode together for a while, then went our separate ways home.

It was a great couple of days of riding and hanging.

Did you get to the Poor Farmer's Market (and deli) in Stuart, Va. (near Mabry Mill on the Parkway)? Good food there.

Thanks for the report. Looks like you had a great ride in a beautiful spot.

Law Dawg, this was my first time at that moto-campground. One of my buddies mentioned that there was a nice spot across the little bridge. he said that if he'd found it before he set up his t-word (shhh!), he'd have been back there. I walked across tha tlittle bridge in the rain and couldn't believe how pretty a little spot that was.

There are quite a few campgrounds in the Southeast that cater to motorcyclists. This one -- Willville Bike Camp -- is a really nice one, and I'll definitely be going back to hang there again.

I forgot to put this pic in the original post. This is from the visitor center at Graggy Gardens.

Patrick, I had a Hungry Hillbilly sandwich from the Poor Farmer's Saturday night, followed up with a piece of Possum Pie for dessert.

Willville is only about a mile from the market, on the other side of the parkway.

I fueled up there Sunday morning and had a biscuit for breakfast.

Dan, you should come down here with your hammock-camping gear while you're lettin' your dribbun' license "cool off," and you can ride my TW200 on a camping trip.

Suuuuurely you won't get in trouble on a T-Dub.

    Or will you?

    Stranger things have happened

I will have to plan one soon. I still have insurance on the bike till May 22, plus I got the renewal and it's down to only $2800
