I have only used 1.9 for a gathered end and for my recent bridge. Both were single layer. Neither ripped, but I do notice some stretch that makes me a little nervous. I weigh 195#. I think I would be apprehensive to use a single layer of 1.1, but I am not sure my fears are justified based on the experience of many other folks that have used 1.1 successfully.
just looks like a little slippage in the weave, i doubt it is much of a weak point...probably nothing to worry about
I have a 1.1 single, I'm 215lbs... It's made from the fabric that Sclittlefield sells... No issues after 5-6 comfy nights.
A DL is always +1 on the safety factor. If that is the uncalendared WW fabric, I'd be a little concerned...

Having acquired material from various sources, I can't remember if this is Walmart or Scott's.
The marks can be found in lots of locations but the largest concentration is towards right center. I think it may well be from pushing off with hands and elbows as I toss and turn. I have about a dozen nights in it.
My personal decision is not to use it anymore. It would probably hold up but I can't justify the weight savings against the risk.

LOL, amen to that brother. My limited conservative nature would put me in something heavier. Seems that failure would be awful if out in the deep woods. You would have to (shudder) go to the ground and bug protection could be a challenge.Originally Posted by Mule

It really wasnt my weight (205). Just grabbing it and being rough stuffing it, or catching a zipper, or accidently sliding it on the ground will pull the weave apart. No tears or serious issues, but it looked pretty rough after a 3 night weekend. I sold it to a good friend of mine, but anyone else would probably have questioned it. I prefer my ENO DN material because it absolutley will not do this. I'm not a big fan of ripstop for hammocks now because of this.
