A year ago I made a gathered end hammock from 1.1oz ripstop nylon. At the time I was amazed that so thin a fabric could support my 185lbs. I've only used it at home, never being totally comfortable with the idea of using 1.1oz in the field.
Preparing for the upcoming MAHHA, I got the hammock out and was considering it for the trip but looking at the material I notice many areas where the weave had become disrupted, though there were no actual holes or tears.
Based on the closeup pics, do you think single layer 1.1oz hammocks should only be used by featherweights or is it fine for those closer to 200lbs?
