You make some very valid points, Pan. It is very true that this forum is not needed at the moment, but this site is growing very fast.

I guess my justifaction for starting this thread was to eliminate clutter in the General forum and make it easier to organize trips.

You have given me something to think about.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this forum has wildly exceeded MY expectations. I'd call it a raging success. Consequently, I tend to think that any ideas we support as a group will probably be equally as successful.

Pan, I'm not really sure why you see a movement of hammock traffic away from WB as a BAD thing. Basically, this forum concentrates your customer base in one place, and then provides you with a nicer, more direct way to communicate with them. Yes, in the short term it's not terribly easy for people to find us, but that'll change soon enough. The reduction in hammock talk on WB, coupled with our continued membership growth, is proof that the word is out there.

I guess there's probably a sense of loyalty connected with WB that I'm just not privy to, having only been on forums in general for a few months now. In general, though, my appreciation of succinct, concentrated information outweighs my sense of tradition. But that's just me.

facts are Pan wants the business, not that there is anything wrong with that. Seems he will get more inquires from WB than here IMO

    Coming from a newbie's perspective-

I voted FOR a forum for trips. It's 'slightly' confusing when first joining to figure out what the heck is going on.
Might make it easier as the forum grows too.

Yep - we get converts from talking about hammock at WB. They're already converted if they're here. Or at least already curious, like Ewker.

oh yeah I am curious, even have one sitting in a plastic bag at home. No time to fool with it yet .Doesn't mean I will give up tenting. I enjoy it. There are things you can do in a tent you might not be able to do in a hammock

I'm gonna forego mention of hammock/sex swing analogues here...

Analogs? No jokes about doing it digital, either.

(Ok, I'm moderating myself. That was bad. Back on topic...campouts forum or not?)

Ahem - A bit of looking around says that 'analog' is a variant of the proper spelling, 'analogue'. In the common usage that I've seen, 'analog' usually refers to electronics, while 'analogue' is the root of 'analogous'. Just my .02
