    Diamond or square..?

First real hang is coming up on Saturday... I'll be in my WBBB and will be using my 10X10 BCUSA tarp. Which way should I hang it..? Do I go for a diamond setup or a regular square a-frame..?

Stu over at Woopie slings set me up with a really nice single ridge line and I was getting ready to put it on the tarp (ordered Sunday, here today!)... then it hit me. What way will be the best? I know either will be fine but I figured I would ask.

    Thanks, Ski

Are you sayin you want to attatch it before you pack it up and go out? I don't put my ridgeline on and leave it on like guylines.I think most folks do it this way. I put my ridgeline up and then attatch my tarp. You can decide at that point what configuration you'd like to set it up. Nice weather? Go diamond. Windy or rainy? A frame amd close the ends.

Yep, I was going to set it up and leave it that way... Plan is to stow it just like my hammock. More or less a double ended stuff sack... I know these have a name. I figure this way should be good for both windy days and rainy/wet days. Heck it just sounds easy....!

I have a Chinook 9.5' x 9.5', and when I hang the diamond it can be very long, almost 14'. Most of the time I will hang it square and give myself a porch.

    Remember Phythagorius

    Greetings

Do keep in mind that a 10' square tarp hung on the diagonal/diamond is going to have a ridgeline length of 14' and a couple inches. So be sure to pick your trees appropriately if you are going to hang it on the diamond.

Depending on the overall length of your hammock, I would go with a regular A frame setup as that will give you more site selection options.

    Cheers

Got the same tarp...too long for a diamond pitch, and a little short for a square.

The long diamond forces everything to be higher than I prefer.
