    PIF for Scouts

This idea came from mega82 on the PIF thread. I think it is a great idea!!

If you have gear that you don't use/need and would like it to be used and appreciated then this may be the place for you. Donate it to the scouts, either a local troop or on here.

ALL GEAR (100%) GOES TO SCOUTS!!!!!

The gear will go to scouts that need it, not want it.

    This is what is needed:
    Hammocks
    Back Packs
    Tents
    Sleeping bags
    Cook stoves (backpacking), NO Alkys
Cook sets (pots, pans, forks ect.)
Pocket Knives (please, no large knives)
    Sleep mats
    Tarps
    Ponchos/rain gear
    First aid kits
    Fire starting items

If you claim an item, please let us know what troop it is for.
If you are a Scout Master, or Assistant and would like your name/troop added then send me a PM and I will add it!!

Please send a PM to one of the following:

Roadrunnr72, BSA Troop 173, Bowling Green, Va
TadTheTinker, BSA Troop 542, Gravel Ridge, Arkansas
OneEye, BSA Troop 50 / Crew 50 Stockton, CA

I'll start it off with a 1.1 silnylon diamond asym tarp.
11ft ridgeline, 88" wide on diagonal, 3/4" d-rings on ends, lineloc 3 adjusters on sides, stuff sack. I'll even ship it to you.

Free to the first Boy Scout who does the following:
    1. Give a short presentation to your Troop or Patrol on the advantages of Hammock Camping.
    2. Submit a photo (or 2) on HammockForums of you or your Troop using hammocks.

First Boy Scout to do the above 2 things and then contacts me gets it.

    Thanks
    PapaSmurf

    Great idea PapaSmurf.

Let them have something invested in the deal. Makes it mean more in the long run.

I didn't mean to de-rail anyone's efforts with my earlier post. My intention was to throw out a teaser as an enticement for Scouts and Scouters to come and watch the good work being done here. By all means, run the PIF as you see fit and I'll try to offer up what I can to help out.

PapaSmurf, I like your idea of "making" them work for it. If anyone or one of your scouts is going to work on this, then please post on here, their intent. We don't need X# of scouts working on this and there is only one tarp.

I don't have any that are hangers. A few seem interested, but no hangers yet. We have a few trips planned and I may bring an extra hammock for them to try.

If you want to list something and want something in return, just list it, as did PapaSmurf.

If you just want to donate, then please contact one of those listed. I am sure any scout would love to receive gear.

    Venturer Hammock Photos

5th Cole Harbour Venturer Scouts a from Nova Scotia, Canada would like to claim PapaSmurf's PIF. We are here having our regular meeting right now and the guys REALLY wanted to participate. They are attaching some hammock and camping photos as PapaSmurf requested. The Venturer Scouts are 14-18 year Scouting members and have been hammocking for over three years. They have demonstrated and discussed the advantages of hammocking with several other Venturer groups and we now have several local groups that hammock. Every area camp we have more and more hammocks in the woods. Tonight we are discussing our plans to build a 20ft diameter geodesic dome. At several large camps we are forced to camp in fields and don't want to go to ground. The dome will hang 8 hammocks and be out kitchen in the centre. We do have a photo of our present kitchen.

Our PIF is seven DIY Bushman chair/ pack cover/ mini hammocks, one made by each member of our group. We will be making them in the next week or two, so some delay in shipping. We will pay shipping and only ask that you post a picture or two of the chairs in use. In the photos you will see them set up in chesterfield mode.
