I usually lash my walking stick to a tree near my tent (Haven't gotten to go hammock camping yet) if it looks like it will rain, I just put a big trash bag over my pack. I dont like to put my pack on the ground if I dont have to. I am thinking that this summer when I do go hammock camping, I will lash my walking stick to one of the trees I am hanging from.

    Gear Hammock Baby!!

I hang mine in my custom gear hammock/camp chair. With the better weather, I have been hanging it above my hammock right below the tarp and it seems to work well. Keeps everything that I have off the ground - which includes me around the fire

Here is the link to my gear hammock:

I've been using my Kelty Yukon external frame for my last few outings, and it just occurred to me before the Hoosier Hang last weekend that I can easily prop it up with one of my trekking poles, and the bottom part of the frame keeps the pack its self off of the ground. I tried it out during the hang and it worked wonderfully. Extra gear can be kept in the pack and it can sit right next to the hammock like a night stand with everything handily within arm's reach.

Once it warms up a bit and I'm not carrying as much bulky insulation, i'll switch back to my slightly smaller internal frame pack. . . I've always just kept that on the ground under me with a poncho over it if necessary to keep the rain off, but I kinda like the tripod idea. I'll definitely be giving that a try.

With my external pack, I just lean it against a tree, if it looks like it will rain, then a big trash bag goes over it. Now that I have a Golite Pinnacle, I need to rethink this.
Was thinking that I could use 2 bags, put the pack in 1 then the other over the top of both. That way no rain coming down, or spashing up will get my pack wet.
