Gossamer Gear ThinLight Pad Pack Size

I have been looking at one of GG's 1/4" thick ThinLight™ pads to use for my warm weather hammock pad. However, given the length (59") and width (41") of the pad, I am wondering how I will be able to get it into my pack....OR NOT.

Does anyone have any field packing/usage experience with these pads?

I don't know either, sorry. Interested to find out though. I imagine like with most other CCF sleeping pads, it'll probably have to be strapped to the outside. The plus side is they weigh practically nothing so it shouldn't effect your carry.

I was going to get one and opted just to get the torso nightlight pad and 1/8 thinlight pad. Ill only use them in 70+ degrees anyway and as sit pads and back suport for my murmur pack. But if I had gotten the 1/4" 41" wide pad I would have either stuck it vertically to the outside of my pack with shockcord and used a sitlight pad for back support or cut it down to 30" and put it in my back pad mesh, ran some shock cord from the outside bottom loop around the back side to the top loop to hold in place. Haven't tried it but I think it would work and since its just shockcord it could be moved out the way easily.

I used one for a February trip on Mt. Greylock to supplement my underquilt. I had to fold in half and roll up along with the HH DJ XL bubble pad and strap to the outside of my pack.

Not a fan of strapping things to the outside like that because it affects which pack cover I can use but it was to bulky to fit in the pack. Ended up pulling out an older Dana Design pack cover that fit over the pack and pads.

I ordered one and the thing is huge. Not sure how to haul it other than folding it in half. I haven't tried it yet, I mainly ordered it for my girlfriend since she sleeps so cold. I'll probably end up cutting some of it off.

I usually go in colder weather and couple this with a blue foam pad. I just roll it up inside the blue pad and they both go on the outside.

Rolled up by itself, its pretty. You could probably just wrap it around the inside of your pack before everything else goes in. It could probably also be folded up more like a towel and put inside the back giving some extra padding between the pack contents and your back.

Fair warning, I bought this thinking it would be good for warm weather and prevent bug bites through the hammock. The first night I used it I tried to tug on it to adjust it and tore a nice chunk out of it. Oh well. Still works

I have one and tried it out for the first time this last weekend. It is big, so I folded it in half and rolled it up, and strapped it onto my pack. It fit ok in my new war bonnet bb 1.1 double. Hope that helps

plan to pack it outside your pack if you are using the full length. If you cut it down for your legs in conjunction with a partial under quilt you can fold it and stuff it inside your pack.
