    Yet Another Triangle Thingy Alternative

I guess my impatient streak has surfaced again. I've been wanting to take a trip to our local Joann's store to pick up some fleece and ripstop for a topquilt and a bit of extra ripstop for some stuffsacks and a pair of triangle thingies. However, since our local Joann's is about 20 miles away, we just haven't had the time to make the trip yet. In the mean time I began thinking about other ways to achieve what a triangle thingy does but without the triangles. I came up with this idea...most likely nothing new but maybe it'll be useful to someone...

First I took 2 pieces of 1/8" polypro utility cord and tied a small loop in each end, overall length was about 14 inches...

To get everything adjusted properly, I enlisted the help of my youngest daughter, partner in crime and soon to be hanger, Jenna...

One end of the cord was hooked onto my ridgeline biner...

The other end of the utility cord was hooked to a mini biner which was hooked to my ridgeline. My UQ (actually a PLUQ I recently finished) was also attached to the mini biner via sections of 1/8" shock cord. For the moment the shock cords are attached to the PLUQ with additional mini biners and but I can see those going away easily.

The whole things snugs up quite nicely...

Got to give it an overnight test hang soon...and the girls are off for a shopping trip next weekend...hmmmm...could happen!

    Looks Good

You are doing exactly what the triangles accomplish. You are pulling the UQ up instead of out. You can see in the last pic how much better the UQ is sealing to hammock. If the UQ suspension was connected on the end of hammock the UQ would not be wrapped around hammock as well. I use some loops on the ridgline on my netless hammocks.

permanently attach those cords to your UQ and then tie on mitten clips at the ends in place of the carabiners and that'd b a nice lightweight solution...

Spent some time last night pondering what the final setup will be. The shock cords will be permanently attached to the UP so those 4 small biners will go away. I don't have any mitten clips handy so I'll likely simply tie a loop in the other end of the shock cord so the mini biner on the ridge line can simply be hooked through the loops.

Simple. effective and made completely with stuff I had on hand...can't beat that!!

Just a suggestion, Why not ditch the small length of cord with the brummels and the biner alltogether and just put a prusik loop on your ridge line. If you want to get really fancy, make it a soft shackle prusik, and you can then open it up to attach the UQ suspension.

I thought about a prusik loop on the ridgeline but the ridgeline is made from a fairly slick material (don't remember what at the moment - its what the folks at WhoopieSlings.com sell) and wasn't too sure it would stay in place. So far this setup seems to work pretty well so I'll stick with it for now...

    nice work, and quite simple
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own
