    First hang outside...

Well I did it, had my first outside hang and me being me it I had to tackle the elements. It was about 7c when I arrived and stayed nice throughout the day but it did go down to -8c through the night.
My set up seemed okay and I was pretty happy with it but I found that the left side of my incubator kept slipping from under my shoulder and I had to keep adjusting it. I think I have some adjustments to make to keep that from happening again.
I had some cold spots and I think that can be resolved, again with some tinkering of the uq. I had thought the uq was nice and snug below me but I don't think that was the case. I'm going to tighten up the side shock cord and look at running some cord from the side of the quilt up to the ridgeline.
Overall I'd rate it about a 6 but I'm not complaining. Not bad for the first one.
I do now have a much greater appreciation for those who are out for several days with just their gear and a pack. Despite being close to my vehicle I wanted to try using a pack. Despite the compactness of my set up, it took up most of my pack and would have left almost no room for food, water and extra clothing. Something else to look at for the future.
Anyway, thats enough about this except for a shout out to angrysparrow, Shug, Bubba, Cannibal and Bradley who gave me the push to go.

Thats great Scott! Nice pics! It's good to get out to work out the kinks. It only gets better every time you go out. Did you only use your UQ? Did you need anything else to keep you warm?

I put a fleece blanket between layers and and another under me and ended up stuffing a fleece jacket and extra socks into a couple of nooks and crannies.

Great trip report. Thanks for the picts.
Tightening up the UQ shockcord, to the point it slightly lifts your hammock when not in it, should help with cold spots and shifting.

Nicely done, but be warned. You have started down a path that very few have the willpower to turn away from. Next thing you know, you'll be looking to set your bottom temp. Just wait till next winter, you'll be watching the weather forecast for the cold days.

Congrats on a successful first night. It only gets better from here.
