I hang the little hammock low just above me. If there is a failure or self ejection the plan is that he would fall down into mine. But that part hasn't been feild tested. Baby Momma was ok with it though.

Randy, how old was he when he first started sleeping above you like that. Also what happens in the morning when he wakes up and tries to get out of bed?
Yosemite Sam: Are you trying to make me look a fool?
Bugs: You don't need me to make you look like a fool.
Yosemite Sam: Yer deerrrnnn right I don't!
That was his first intro to hammock camping. But not his first camp out.
He had already been on a 5 mile day paddle with me and several campground camp outs, and an overnight river trip.
That 60 inch wide hammock, the kids can not easily climb in or out.
They both have been bumped up to HH Scouts just last week.
There is no DS 's or Atari's at this place.....

There's a lot of security in that extra width. I'd go ahead and rip out that seam and make it wider... When you whip it, if you use the wrapped whipping, you can pull up the edges just a bit, and the hammock will have higher sides. This makes it more difficult to exit, but less likely for the little one to be ejected in the night...

I was thinking about doing this for my daughter too. Stormcrow is sending 10 yds of 1.1, so after I use some for the UQ, I'll make her a hammock. Thought I'd hang her above me too, more for her to feel comfortable with me being up close. The kiddos are used to tenting with us, so being alone between 2 other trees would prob make her a bit uneasy. This way I can just use the 1 tarp too.
It's better to be lucky, than good!
i always worry about midnight showers with the kid hanging over me. Is this ill founded?

Lol, my son did that... when he was 20 seconds old... I figured it was just a good start to the rest of our lives...
If the kid uses an UQ, just make the outer shell out of silnylon...
I really like the over/under idea... they can't escape the tickle monster under their hammock!
