Hi everyone, stumbled upon hammocking recently (i wish I remembered where from...) and am jumping in! Snagged a DoubleNest, got my descender rings and straps, got an awesome deal on amsteel from opie and then orderered a tarp ridgeline and ASR from his website... going for a bugnet soon.

Are tarps necessary if it isn't going to rain? Hadn't seen anything on that but maybe it was covered in one of Shug's videos and I missed it.

going to thermarest/sleeping bag it until i'm sure this is the way to go for me. maybe an underquilt after if i love it. another question: when underquilt ratings are set, what clothing is assumed to be on the user? full thermals? shorts and a t-shirt?

thanks for all the really useful info, between the shug/grizz videos and ridiculously large amount of threads on this forum, i've never lacked night time reading material for the last few weeks!

gonna hit up yosemite for the first trip with my brother, so that if i'm dying i can just move into his tent
