    question on converting

I have a North Face Cats Meow (polargaurd 3d) that I don't ever use. I want to convert it to an underquilt. I've read a lot of threads from the search function, but I'm still uncertain. Here are my questions...
Is cutting it in half and make a half underquilt ok?
What do I put on there to keep it cinched up and how do I attach it to the hammock body?
The hammock I'm using is a basic DIY 4x10 with Ridgeline.

I think this would be worth getting a cheap $5 bag and doing a test run. If it was me I would start cutting and shaping to hammock when it is loaded. Basically try holding the bag undereneath and start cutting. But then again that's just me.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

yep, fitting it to a loaded hammock will help you see what you need.
the hammock can be loaded w/ a person or just stuff... start w/ a mat or pad, then add lots of stuff to weight & spread the hammock.

as for the bag, i would start by sewing a couple inches inside the zipper, then cut the zipper off, fold the newly cut edge & sew to end up w/ a finished edge.

as for the foot box, i have only made top quilts from sleeping bags, so i left that in place.
you will probably want to continue the cut to the bottom so you can spread it out since you plan to use it as an underquilt.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Yeah a top quilt was not too bad. The problem with an UQ is getting the fit right so you do not get a lot of air gaps. Down will reshape to the shape of the hammock. With synethic you need to shape it.
