    Dumb Question

Alright guys, I know this may sound dumb but I have no idea how to hang my new Mac Standard. Should I tie it off to my suspension or hand it to the trees directly? What knots to I use and what knots do I not use? I am new to this hammock and tarp stuff so I am totally clueless. Thanks! BTW, my new Standard looks like a quality piece of gear and I can't wait to use it.

I think most of us hang the tarp independently of the hammock...so we are NOT connecting the tarp to the hammock suspension (if you do your tarp will sag big time when you get in the hammock).
Now tarp to tree, there are two lines of thought. One line that goes from tree-to-tree and then the tarp connects to that line (usually with Prussiks, but there are other nots that will work)...this allows you to 'slide' the tarp along this line between the trees and fine tune its placement over the hammock-important if the tarp used is minimal and you need to dial in protection; not so much if you are using a giant tarp like the McCat Deluxe (the King of Tarps in my opinion).
The other option is a line from each end of the tarp to the tree. I think most of us started this way, a lot are still doing it this way-it works and is made easier with Figure-9's or the new highly anticipated Dutch Flyz's.
If you go the later route and find yourself wanting to adjust the placement of the tarp you will have to untie it in two places, e.g. both trees and then retie...not so good in big rain high wind.
There is no right or wrong, its what you think will work best for you.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you use the same line as the side tie outs or something else? I sprang for the orange stiff line stuff if it matters.

Just a quick pitch here that knowing a couple of knots and hitches learnt well enough to do in the dark is a wonderful thing. And for a ridgeline and guylines, you can't beat a midshipman's hitch, and for the last half hitch in it, a slipped (or slippery) half hitch. You can cinch these tight and cinch these easily, and it comes apart even faster.
