    my DIY Bug Net

I made myself a bug net. It took me two days of thread injecting. Total material cost about $65. Plus I spent another $26 on tools. But hey now i've got those tools for next time. And i have a lot of left over ripstop and a good bit of netting too.

You can't see in this pic but it has a light green grosgrain across the ridge line.

I Gave it a ripstop bottom because I wanted to be able to put my pack inside. I don't think I should have made the ripstop go all the way to the ridge line.

I'm waiting on my zipper. It's actually sewed closed except for the velcro around the suspension. Yes that's right, I can't get inside of it! lol. Turning it right side out through a 2" velcro cover hole was not fun.
I'm going to cut the ripstop close to the middle and sew in the zipper. Which is why I made the ripstop go to the ridge line. But now i'm thinking the zipper need to be offset to a side and not in the middle.
I'm already considering things to do different on the next one.

That's how all my diy projects go too. Almost done and planning improvements on the next version. Don't tell my wife I said that.

That is a great looking bug net. I am always impressed at the number of different and effective ideas people have for doing the same thing. I am inspired.

    Dimensions

What are the finished dimensions of the bug net? Also, any other details of the process would be appreciated.

I've been working on mine too so I keep coming back to the forum to get pointers. Some one pointed out that an easy way to do a zipper for a novice was to sew the zipper (zipped up I would assume) onto the fabric and then cut the fabric last.

What you've done so far looks great.

First I measured and cut the two peices of netting 104" x 36". I injected thread along the 104" side. This is the ridge line. Then from the corners I used my 48" straight edge to measure the 48" to the end. This gave me a cut at 50*. Then i measured out the rip stop length and cut it in half giving me a 30" wide strip. Then from the middle of the end I drew a 48" line to the edge and cut that. Inject thread along the blues and yellows. I only used 2" of Velcro but i recommend more. I think next time I'm going to leave off the yellow part of the ripstop and inject thread directly between the yellows on the netting and then thread the purple line into the rectangle bottom. I hope all that makes sense.
