    Hi Guys

I am a South African expatriate engineer currently based in SE Madagascar. Mad keen on hunting and fishing and anything outdoors - my son bought me a hammock and is intent on introducing me to this style of getting bush comfortable. Hoping to learn from you guys - !!!

First hurdle - this place full of malaria - how do I prevent getting bitten by the dreaded anopheles in thye dark hours??

Unlike africa, wild animals are not the threat - its the small bugs that are a problem!!

Hello and welcome. For bug protection you need a bugnet. Either a separate bugnet or buy a hammock with an integrated bugnet. Check out the manufacturers forum. The popular brands like Warbonnet, Tree to Trail Gear, Clark, Hennesy all make hammocks with integrated bugnets. The Warbonnet bugnet is the lightest one I have seen. ENO has a bugnet but it is heavier and has a lot of material that hangs underneath. HF Member PapaSmurf makes bugnets as well.

Welcome to funville, strap on in

Aside from the bug nets some people soak their stuff in permethrin, though I haven't gone that route yet
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own
