Butt Bungee Zipperless Hammock Bugnet

I posted this earlier but I made a second one and it works too so I'm considering this verified™. It was posted earlier in another thread, but maybe it's worthy of it's own thread?

It's dead simple. Just a sewed length of standard sized bug net to the high side of a footbox gathered end hammock. I grosgrained the edge. Then I take the corners and tie them in knots so I can tie a length of shock cord between them.

I get in the hammock, grab the shock cord, toss it over the ridgeline, then reach over the side of the hammock and push the shock cord underneath the hammock past my hips so it pops back up on the highside.

How does it work with a underquilt?

I haven't tried it with an underquilt yet, but so long as the quilt suspension is past the edges of the net, it should allow the net to slide between the quilt and hammock.

Was the second one with a footbox also? I saw your original post and I am thinking about doing this on a regular gathered end hammock. Do you think it will work the same?

The second one was also with a foot box. I don't know if it will work without a high side.

On my hammock the net circles about 75% of the way around. The question would be, without a high side, if the net is wide enough to wrap over and around you and still pop back up on the net side? That would be the only reason I can think of why it might not, and you could always sew another foot or two of width to your net if it is a problem.

OK I tried this with a regular gathered end hammock and it didn't really work. As suspected, there was not enough bugnet to make the leap around my backside. (no jokes please)

As you said rturtle, I think if I sewed some extra width on the net it might work.

I am playing around with several other styles to see which one I like best. I might come back to this later.

Another thing you could try is sewing a couple of lengths of grosgrain hanging straight down at the corners, say a foot or two long, and tie those together with the shock cord. This should have the same effect as a longer net.
