Beyer makes their hammocks out of "polyester parachute fabric" though that doesn't help much. I was looking for similar fabrics. The best I can find is satins and lining at Joann's, but they're not as light as 1.9 nylon..

Add me to the list as one who would love to find polyester in the 2 oz range. While I'm wishing, I might as well add "camo" to the description

Man, I just don't really know enough about fabric - I've managed to make it almost a half-century totally oblivious

Is Rayon taffeta no good? For all I know, Rayon could just be a brand name for polyester.

Guess I'll have to hit the Google. . .

Well, I looked it up and have a better understanding of what Rayon is, but am not really sure if it would be any good for this application. ..

    Ber,
I'm sending you a ripstop polyester hammock I got from animalcontrol. I was thinking of recycling the fabric into one of my new hammocks, but I can see that it will be a long time before I would have gotten around to that. It's actually a really nice hammock as is - plenty large and comfortable. See if it feeds your life. Am sending it with the strap suspension that AC sent so you will have instant gratification: hang product and enjoy! (Remember to tie backup knots in the straps for those triangular thingies - they slip.) It's a PIF, so use or recycle in any way you wish.

Well, I went to Joanne's fabrics and found some 100% polyester that seemed like it might work in the lining section. When I got it home and weighed it, it came in at 1.92 oz/square yard. Gotta' admit that I was pretty happy when it came in right at my target weight

Anyway, I'm going to give it a shot and if it works out, I'll post the fabric number.

    Man, I hope that I don't hit the floor. . .

Rockywoods has some excellent polyester microfiber fabric for hammock use. The microfiber makes the fabric soft and supple.

I have used it for quite a few Bridge Hammocks and as long as they continue to carry the microfiber, it is the only fabric I will use. I believe it comes out at slightly over 2 oz/sq yd (2.2 if memory serves me right).

I would like to try their Dress Blues microfiber, but haven't had the opportunity to yet.

Good deal. I looked at the site but didn't see any weights on that one and the others were in the 4 oz range. Just figured they didn't carry what you recommended any more.

    Thanks for the links!

Don't go by the weights they list. They list the weights by the running yard and not by the sq yd. Also, until somebody specifically asks, the running yd weights listed are place holders or guesses.

To get the sq yd weight you have to email or call and ask them to weigh the fabric. In my experience it might take them a while, but they do accommodate.
