+1...the release makes them easier to open than the nacrabiner.

As others have said...it's only a matter of preference.

+2 on the release. I save some my shorter pieces of amsteel so I can take single strands out and use them as the release.

How exactly does one add the release?

Now I have to think, I haven't made any in a while. After you have made your marks, I bury the mason line from about 6" from the OTHER end to that end. Then when you pull the first bury, the mason line is inside. That way when you tie the knot, the mason line is in the knot and will not pull out. The first few I tried, I didn't go to the knot and had them pull out. If you still can't get it/ understand it, I'll try to make another, with pics.

Here is a video on making a soft shackle. He installs the leash (release) at about 7:15......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH66t...layer_embedded

I personally like the combo design. I just got a roll of lash-it and started playing in the world of splicing. I made a tarp suspension (V design with prusiks for tension) and 4 guylines for my new WB BMJ tarp. I also made up a buch of the combo design ones (soft-biner?, nacra-shackle?).

I love it, it's like manly knitting (rope is manly). I just ordered a bunch of amsteal from AHE and plan on making some whoopies and load bearing shackles/biners. I'll be a gram weenie before you know it.
