Help with a new ENO Suspension

Hello all and thank you in advance for your help.

I recently purchased a new double nest and slap straps. (they are temporary but wanted to try them out) I didn't get too much stretch in them but did find them very restrictive as far as finding trees at the right length apart and in the adjustability.

What I would like to do is change the suspension system to a cinch buckle system similar to what I have on my claytor but would like to do so without changing the stock cordage and carabiner. see the link to a past thread on what I have on my claytor. Weight is not a huge issue as this will not be a backpacking hammock.

I am open to suggestions but here is what I have in mind, do y'all think it would work.

I don't think that a cinch buckle will clip to the carabiner so I think I will get a piece of webbing with a loop to hook to the carabiner and then loop the other end around the cinch buckle and sew a another permanent loop to attach it. Then use the same webbing on the other side of the biner to complete the system.

Has anyone done anything like this or do you know of a better way to do this? Thanks again.

No expert here but it sounds reasonable. You could also use a pair of descender rings on each end...either clop them to the existing carabiners or ditch the biners and attach the rings directly to the hammock using the existing rope/cord and a larks head (what i did...works great)...

I have an ENO as well, and started out with the slap straps....hated them, they stretched out, and like you said restricted the distance between trees.

    Here is what I done....

I removed the eno biners.....to me they are sharp, heavy, and don't like the function of them. I bought climber biners....weigh 3.7 onces ( both ) and carry up to 400lbs. each. I also purchased mules suspension system, they are 14 + ft. long and work very well....Mule ( Steve Skinner ) does quality work, and stands behind his work.

    Jerry,

Is there a site that Mule's suspension system is for sale?

I have a double and hated the crapstraps. I went with whoopie slings and polyester tree huggers. If you go to whoopieslings.com they have a video showing you how to put the slings on.

One option is to do the ends Warbonnet style then add whoopie slings. See Knotty's thread on making a gathered end hammock in the DIY forum for details.

I had the sad straps too. OK for the kids, but they rubbed on the deck (kids swingin'). The nylon heated up and snapped, dumping one of my daughters on the ground in tears. I took out the ENO line and steel biner and put on whoopies. Much lighter and NO sag. I'm going to switch my other ENO out to the same.
