    what knot doesn't slide?

I want to hang my tarp using the single ridge line, and have the ridge line rope around the tree and secured farther from the tree so my hammock line can run between the V that the ridge line will create. What knot can I use on the ridge line that won't slip? I was playing with a bow line knot, but with the line being taught, I can't make the loop.
It's better to be lucky, than good!

As the saying goes, if you can't tie a good knot,,,tie a lot of them.

I used a knot bone on one end, and fig 9 on the other so no knots here. I recently changed to the Dutch hook and Tarp Flyz for even lighter and simplier no knot CRL set up.

A good look at tying your tarp can be seen in Shug's videos. He shows the knot you are looking for, and other ways of interest. Here's the link to vid. 5 in the series. Somewhere between vid 5 and 9 you'll see the knot.

On one end I use a microbiner and clip a loop around the tree (but there is no V). On the other end I use a truckers hitch knot that allows for the V you are looking for. Search for "truckers hitch knot" to see how to tie.

    Best of luck

You could try a Figure 9 or one of the new Dutch Flyz instead of a knot....
Here is PART 5 of my video series......Tarps start here.....if you want to skip most and see a figure 9 start 3:59.
    May help you see it.
Knots are good to know though!!!!

PART 5: Tarps .... we love 'em .... we need 'em! Especially if you are a hammock hanger. We are going on a tarp journey ....I hope to cover MOST of the info. You are gonna have to do some research and trials yourself. It is the only way. The only. Site selection and widow-makers are touched on. Knots ... I cover a few but not all by any means! A looky-see at the continuous ridgeline for tarp. Under the tarp for snow camping. See the much talked about "figure 9" in action. Oh, the thrill! Toggles on tarp d-rings. Whooooo Pull outs on tarps. Some guy line speak. A look inside my DIY winter Tarp with Doors. A Coyote kill site.

I go bowline on one end and slipped trucker's hitch on the other.

Getting that trucker's hitch dialed in will be super helpful anytime you use some line.
how do you get the forest ready for the party?
    ...you spruce it up!

There is a neat video showing the use of a Siberian hitch on one side, and a powercinch on the other. Courtesy of Bushcraft Northwest:

I'm not sure if you are looking for a constrictor type not that can be adjusted on the ridgeline back and forth, but then when tugged on, doesn't move. If that's the case, a Prussik, Kleimheist, or other sort of autobloc knot is what you are looking for.

Dejoha has an awesome illustration with different tarp set ups. I really like the one with the prussic--quite simple and mercifully adjustable .

    Here's the link: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=16650

    Hope this helps.
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
