Hey guys thought i would bennifit from the seasoned pros on here for my question so here goes.

I just bought claytor jungle hammock and before it gets here i wondered what yall think the best suspenion for a 6'1 300lbs redneck would be. Now i have absolutetly no experience with any of this hammock stuff but love the idea and i need onefor a trip i am taking in 2 weeks. I figured i would just grab 2 ratchet straps and strap it up to the trees. What do yall think?

As long as the webbing on the ratchet straps is polyester or polypropylene and you don't mind the weight and bulk of the ratchet mechanism, you'll be fine with those. Just avoid nylon (webbing or rope) as it tends to stretch quite a bit. Also be sure to get your suspension angle at about 30 degrees from horizontal as that will keep the forces on the straps to about your body weight. There is a chart for this somewhere on this site.

make sure the ratchet straps are atleast a 900lb break strength. You want atleat triple your weight in break strength to compensate for moving around and hanging forces. If you had more time, I would suggest building a ring buckle sytem like the old-school webbing belts.

I would call paul at arrowhead equipment and have him send you a set of tree straps and a set of whoopies. His prices are good and his response times are quick. Its what I use and I am heavier than you. It will be lighter than the ratchet straps and probably not much more dough$$

Yes sir i planned on it. The hammock is waitiing for me at home now. I am taking it out to the woods tommorow and atleast a couple more times next week before the weekends so i get it down atleast for my first weekend in it.

I just swapped out my DIY Jungle Hammock suspension you may want to consider a similar system as an option for yours.
