10 days, where would you go?

I was thinking Wilmore Wilderness, north of Jasper Park

or Yoho National Park, Lake O'Hara . . . alpine no bugs to speak of
with about 55 mi of alpine trails amongst a dozen glacial lakes good fishing.

hike up 18 miles or take the bus up
camp for three nights only or use the cabins . . .

The Wilmore is a great suggestion. I wonder if Lake O'Hara will be free of snow by june

Funny thing there it has been known to snow on any given day even in the summer . . . when I was there last in '79 it was awesome.

Foothills Trail in SC/NC would be a good bet, or one of the less-populated trails in the Smokies.

Big Sur has a lot of nice trails as well, sometimes with ocean views. Would be pretty easy to string together 10 days there with a shower stop or two in the campgrounds (or not). Not many regs there, either.

I also enjoyed Yosemite...worth the trip if you've never been in the Yosemite backcountry. Amazing...and could easily fill up 10 days. More regs here, but not really burdensome except for the bear cannister requirement.

Big Sur is only about 6 hours from Yosemite, so you could do half and half.

10 days on the Cree River in northern Saskatchewan...ya need a boat though

and there are bugs

Sleeping Giant Provincial Park (formerly Sibley) or Pukaskwa Provincial Park, Ontario Canada. Bugs shouldn't be too bad and both of these places have spectacular hiking and paddling. Kids will still be in school so not many people around during the week. Quetico (Canadian BWCA) is another option, you're truly in the middle of nowhere there.
