10 days, where would you go?

Due to a schedule change I've got a 10 day stretch off in June.
Where would you go? if you wanted to avoid bugs/extreme heat?

    You are there already!

However, if I had to pick an alternate, White Mountains, NH.

Gila Wilderness, NM. That, or an ultra-push on the JMT. For the latter I'd rather do it slower to take it all in.

I'd do a section of the PCT
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

Tough choices, here. Snow pack at any elevation still, and it will be there come June also. I figure that lets out most of the JMT, all of the Cascades, and the Rockies. Even if the snow is gone in some places, the insects and skeeters will be ferocious.

Turning South, June is too hot for some of my favorite playgrounds, like the Grand Canyon and southern Utah. Too early for Yellowstone or Glacier. Where to go?

Big ticket destinations seem to be out, but the weather will just be getting nice in the Redwoods, or the shores of Olympic. I would not try the mts there, tho. How about a few days in Maine, or Vt? Nice hills, and the trails are good also.

There will be some snow up near the tree line by late June in the Colorado part of the Rockies, but not enough to bother with snowshoes. The Gore Range Trail would be a nice hike. Depending on who you ask, the trail is 45-100 miles long. I think the discrepancy is due to the 82 jillion side trails that link with it. Bugs won't be too bad, but the trees are another story. Lots of beetle kill out here and that area is particularly heavy with them. Got to pay very close attention when setting up camp and always find a spot before dark. Couple of spots on the trail take you up above 11,000'

Or, there is always the Colorado Trail. Lots of terrain to choose from and the south end should be well clear of snow by mid-June.

I'll be thru-hiking the Gore Range Trail in July. The views are spectacular!

BWCA. Bugs are out by June, but you can always escape onto (or into) the water.

This would be my choice for a 10 day. In fact, I am pushing for +10 days off next year to do it.
