I have both and the Hiker Pro sits in a storage locker. Since getting the Sawyer, I just haven't used it. I like the Sawyer as I use the clean water bag in my pack for my hydration. When time to refill, I just disconnect the drinking tube and connect the tube from the filter. Flow through the filter is very good for a gravity system. I can filter a liter of water in the time it takes me to set up my hammock and tarp.

I took the plunge and used my REI dividend for a nice discount. I got the Sawyer 2L complete system. Reasons for choosing: Compatibility with my Camelbak and being able to use the Sawyer as the bladder for my packs. And the no pumping concept.

What swayed me from the Hiker Pro: Nipple breakage in reviews, Handle breakage in reviews, and it seems like it clogs easier.

    Thanks again for the input.

One thing I notice right away is that they have taken care of the issue of the bag tearing out where you hang it. They have put grommets in lieu of just a hole. That was one of the only cons that really made me look twice. I'll be going on a short hike tomorrow and will be doing a little review on it.

The part of the system you take on the trail(2 bladders, gray hose, filter, and blue hose) is around 12 ounces. I'm posting a short review on it.
