I have been looking at fabrics for my weathershield system and I started reading about Pertex. It sounds like it would be a great fabric for what I'm looking to accomplish.
They make several different types of fabric: Quantum, Microlight, Classic, Endurance, and Equilibrium.
I am most interested in the Endurance:
This would make a great bottom weathershield.Main Properties
100% windproof
1000mm water column, highly water resistant
Very breathable, also at low temperatures
The Equilbrium fabric has some interesting properties:
The Quantum fabric is only 0.9oz/yd2. I wonder if would make a really light Speer type hammock:Main Properties
Patented ‘denier gradient’ structure moves moisture away from the skin
Weatherproof
Tough and durable
Very low comparable weight and packing volume
I have not been able to find it for sale online yet. Anybody know where to find it?. It's probably expensive as heck but I can think of several uses for the different types of fabrics. How Does it Benefit the User?
LIGHT and strong! 25-50% weight
reduction without sacrificing much
strength and abrasion resistance.
50% less packing volume compared
to standard 44 decitex fabrics.
Soft hand allows your sleeping bag
to have more loft.
Where do I Find it?
Thanks to its dense weave Pertex Quantum® is downproof and can be used for any high-end application in sleeping bags, down jackets and expedition gear. It is a gear freak's dream.
