Chinook or Kelty?

I am looking into a decent tarp and had decided on ordering a Kelty Noah's Tarp 9, but discovered the chinook 12'X9'6" tarps today, which look like they would offer more protection than the kelty. I'm a noob at this so any advice would be appreciated.

I recently picked up the Kelty 12, which is pretty big...but I gotta admit, it's pretty awesome!

if the guidegear 12x12 wasnt sold out id say that one was my choice for big storms

I actually looked at the guide gear and if it was in stock anywere it would be my tarp, but I am stuck looking for alternatives. The chinook can close off at the ends, which I think would be a huge advantage, but again, I am a noob

The Kelty looks sweet, I just wonder about the coverage for an ENO double. I am trying to learn as I go

Like you I just got into hammocking and bought a Kelty 12x12 as my first tarp, and I am very glad I did.
It is a very nicely built tarp which should prove to be perfect as a multi-use tarp.
It has plenty of built-in tie-down points to offer an infinite number of configuration.

It is gargantuan which should give you plenty of coverage for a double hammock.

I am going to use it as a base model to build a lighter version later on.

I have the Kelty 12 and it's great. Tons of room you can set it up a few different ways especially as shown above with pseudo doors. I used mine set up with the "doors" during a 13-degree snowy evening. Performed very well. It is a bit heavy but if that's not a concern, I'd go with it again in a heartbeat. That said, my next purchase is going to be a MacCat Standard.

Thanks for the info and the photo. Doors were something I was interested in foir winter use, but I didnt realize the kelty could be set up that way. So I think a Kelty 12 it is. Thanks again!
