Hi jerseydave, living in Australia, at least where I am, I don't have the extra 4th season that alot of the tarps are designed for. So really a 3 season tarp will cover all 4 seasons I experience here. (Hope that made sense)

I own a WB Superfly, new model with inbuilt doors, and until I get the funds to buy a OES, I'm using this as my one and only tarp, and it works very well for that IMO, as if I get bad weather, the superfly can handle it, if its nice weather, porch mode/no tarp.

here is a photo I took a little while ago, you can see the difference between the superfly and the blackbird in their stuff sacks.

WBSF is my one and only do it all woodsy motel. i like my big tarp.
it's a little more wt. and a little more space, but a lot more versatility and comfort.
    i like it.

I must say my superfly packs down to about the size of 2 one liter nalgenes and a little wider. And I still have trouble getting it in the stuff sack.

I'm a big tarp fan of big tarps for all 4 seasons. I like the coverage that it offers and in the summer allows you to pitch a really nice big front porch. Even though I don't have the super fly a tarp that size I think would be a great 4 season tarp if you dont mind the weight penalty in the summer. Their are some on this forum that would disagree and would say get a smaller tarp first. That forces you to learn how to pick a site better and many here on this forum use a Mc Cat Delux or Standard in the winter which is smaller then a Super Fly. But I like big tarps all year round simply cause I like lots of real estate when hammocking. thats just me

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

i'll agree that the stuffsac is taller and bigger around than a 1L nalgene, but once in the stuffsac it can be compressed into a smaller space, probably about half it's size if you really had to

if you're having trouble stuffing it, perhaps try starting in the middle of the ridgeline, alot less length to stuff that way.

as for the size of the stuffsac, i just successfully put 2 superfly's in one stuffsac to see if i could.

The Superfly is an excellent 4 season tarp. You will love the coverage it provides and you can always buy a second tarp (for strictly 3 season use) down the road.

Superfly all the way. I contemplated the bmj with door kit for versatility, but the Superfly weighed only about two ounces more than that getup. My Superfly is also big enough to pitch over a Golite Shangrila 2 person bug tent for the times I go camping with my kids and I have to hit the ground with them. I don't have any problem packing in the stuff sac, but I don't just ram it in there like a quilt. I fold in sections at the ridgeline, then roll down from the ridgeline so no air gets trapped. Rolls down like a jellyroll with room to spare.
