Great idea!

Surely, God could have made a better way to sleep.
Surely, God never did.
Making dinner tonite, I opened a bag of potatoes and noticed a thicker/stronger (but heavier @ 1 gram) bag clip. I got excited and showed it to my wife (who now thinks that I am a total nut).
Oh well.
Happy hammocking.

The original bread clip works, but tends to deform under load. The potato clip is rock solid. The bread clip is shown on top, with the longer potato clip below (left photo).
I drilled 1/8" holes in the potato clips. The holes closest to the middle work, the far holes make the balance off and won't work.
In the right photo the potato clip is shown under load (pulled very tight and holding up a tarp).
If you doubt it works, make some and try them yourself.
Cold weather performance may be a problem.
A note about my tarp suspension lines - 200 lb. dacron polyester braided kite line (solid core - not splicable). It is 2.5 mm in diameter, has a round crossection, and has a nice sheath that holds knots. Some other lines may not work as well.

Very nice write-up and instructions. I can't wait to go thru several # of potatoes so I can try this myself.
Wal-Mart Employee: Sir, why are you pulling the tabs form the bags of potatoes? Sir, sir. We need you to put those tabs back NOW! Sir, why exactly do you need all these tabs?
chickenwing: Ummm. I am a member of hammockforums.net and I promised these in the PIF and I have to get them shipped out in the morning.
Wal-Mart Employee: (softly into 2-way radio) Yeah. It's another one of those hammock weirdos stealing the clips from the potato bags. Yes sir. I'll call the police right away.
chickenwing: Really, the police? I wonder if they will let me hang my hammock from the bars of the cell?
That's right Wal-Mart prosecutes ALL shoplifters - even the wee little clips from potato bags so DON'T even think about it. (and no I have not tried it)

Potato Clips on both ends of tarp (you can see potato clip under load in first photo).
Moderately gusty day as you can see in the third photo.
No problems, held fine.

My problem is I buy potatos from the farmer down the road and move 'em from his cellar to mine.
Pun intended.

I am really interested to see how they work in Aluminum or Titanium.
Please post pictures and your experiences.
Thanks.
